Coronado Masquerade Timeline

September 2: The San Diego Sheriff’s Office concludes that Rebecca Zahau murdered herself. Case closed. (Surely SDSO will promptly return Rebecca’s personal belongings to her grieving family: her phone, journal, computer, clothing.)

October 6: SDSO Lt. Nesbit announces that the case file, including police reports and witness statements collected by investigators, will be turned over to the Zahau family in accordance with the California Government Code and victims' rights laws. (Great news, but what took so long SDSO?)

October 20: Anne Bremner, Zahau family attorney, states: "Over a month ago we were told we would get the police reports in 7-10 days. We have received nothing! We need those to make our request for an independent investigation to the AG." (Hey Lt. Nesbit, why the delay? What’s up with the guilty demeanor?)

October 23: Ms. Bremner, with little recourse nor patience remaining, declares: "We are filing a Mandamus action this week." (What’s the story, DA Bonnie Dumanis? Never heard of the California Open Records Acts?)

October 24: 101 days after her violent suspicious death, Rebecca’s body is being exhumed. The findings from a second autopsy and further independent investigation will be aired on the Dr. Phil program in November. (Geez. Sheriff Gore. Just pass over the blasted files! Isn’t it about time you came clean?)
