Thank you for visiting Justice for Rebecca.

This blog was created and is maintained by people whose questions turned to disbelief, and whose disbelief gave way to outrage when the death of Rebecca Zahau was ruled a suicide by William Gore, San Diego County Sheriff.

At right you will find numerous informational links that you can use to go back and review this case from the very beginning.  If you can only stay for a minute, we urge you to sign the petition calling for a new, transparent and independent investigation into the death of Rebecca Zahau http://www.change.org/petitions/california-attorney-general-open-an-independent-investigation-into-the-death-of-the-rebecca-zahau

For those of you who can stay longer, this is Rebecca's Story:

Rebecca Zahau was a beloved daughter and sister.  On July 13, 2011 in Coronado, California, Rebecca died a "very suspicious and very violent death" according to Tim Curran of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.  Curran's quote was given to reporters outside the historic Spreckels Mansion, home to Rebecca Zahau and her boyfriend, Jonah Shacknai.  Rebecca was found by first responders naked, hands bound behind her back, feet bound, and with a rope noose and a tightly wrapped t-shirt around her neck.

It is important to note that Rebecca Zahau was NOT found hanging.  Articles and stories continue to report that Rebecca was found hanging when in fact she was found on the ground by first responders.  Rebecca's body was discovered and allegedly cut down by houseguest Adam Shacknai, brother of Jonah Shacknai, who stayed on the property the night Rebeeca died.  Adam Shacknai was given a lie detector test regarding his involvement in this case and the results of that test were inconclusive (which is contrary to the statement that Adam "passed" the lie detector test which was made by Sheriff Gore in summarizing his agency's findings).

To compound the tragedy of her death, Rebecca's naked body was allowed by law enforcement to remain uncovered and unshielded in the courtyard of the Spreckels property for 13 hours.  Rebecca was viewed and photographed by onlookers and news helicopters.  Both dignity and evidence were destroyed that day.  They are both unrecoverable.

The Investigation

Within 24 hours of Rebecca Zahau's death, the San Diego Sheriff's Office under the direction of William Gore launched an investigation that blatantly chose to ignore compelling evidence found at the crime scene:

latex gloves with mixed DNA, mixed DNA in Ms. Zahau's fingernail clippings, blood and a clump of hair found in the shower, pantiesand a clump of hair  found in the guest house of the mansion (where Adam Shacknai stayed that night), 4 head wounds caused by a rounded blunt object (which are hard to explain in a hanging death), and additional shoe prints found on the balcony from which law enforcement claims Rebecca jumped.  Rebecca's DNA was NOT found on this balcony.

Several witnesses came forward in this case -- neighbors heard a woman scream for help at approximately 10:20 that night, yet Lt. Larry Nesbit of the San Diego Sheriff's Office dismissed this information as "irrelevant".  A man riding his bicycle with his family saw a woman he identified as Dina Shacknai (Mr. Shacknai’s ex-wife and mother of little Max) at the mansion at approximately the same time, stating that she was acting in a bizarre manner. Nina Romano, Dina’s fraternal twin sister and Mr. Shacknai's ex-sister-in-law, has subsequently stated she was at the mansion at the time and must have been mistaken for her sister, Dina. LE processed Nina’s fingerprints and DNA, but she was not subjected to a polygraph test. Dina was never fingerprinted, her DNA was not requested nor was she requested to take a lie detector test.

During a Press Conference on September 2, 2011 the SDSO ruled the death of Rebecca Zahau a suicide and deemed the investigation closed.  In making this ruling, the SDSO failed to question and clear multiple people who had access to the Sprekels mansion on or before July 13, 2011.  The whereabouts of certain individuals with access to the mansion have proven to be at best unconfirmed, or at worst, in direct conflict with information that was previously reported by authorities.

Where we are now

There has been
overwhelming support from around the world in the fight for justice for Rebecca.  Through the courage and tenacity of Rebecca's family and their attorney Anne Bremner, professional services and financial resources have been secured to move this case forward and keep this case in the spotlight.  Most recently, the Zahau family made the emotional but necessary decision to exhume Rebecca’s body so that a second autopsy could be conducted by renown  Forensic Pathologist Cyril Wecht.

The Dr. Phil Show showcased the case of Rebecca Zahau in a 2-part special that aired November 14 & 15.  On this show, Dr. Wecht discussed the results of his autopsy and indicated that the "injury evidence was not consistent with the cause of death" and that he has "grave and serious doubts that the manner of death was suicide."  He implored the SDSO to reclassify Rebecca's cause of death as "undetermined", thus enabling an open and continued investigation, stating "There can be no doubt that it demanded further investigation -- I lean very strongly for it being a homicide, something involving foul play, and lean strongly against it being a suicide.”

In response to the Dr. Phil special, Sheriff Gore said, "If Dr. Wecht, or Miss Bremner would like to share information http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2011/11/dr-phil-second-rebecca-zahau-autopsy-sensationalism-lowest-point-says-san-diego# they believe is pertinent with our investigators, we would be glad to meet with them, rather than hear their results on television, presented as entertainment http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2011/11/dr-phil-second-rebecca-zahau-autopsy-sensationalism-lowest-point-says-san-diego# "   Additionally, Gore has repeatedly said that if new evidence is presented to his agency, the case will be reopened.

And that is why we're here.  Set aside new evidence for moment.  Simply put, there is more than sufficient OLD evidence to warrant a new investigation.  At this juncture the case cries out for a thorough, transparent and independent investigation into the death of Rebecca Zahau.

What you can do

Spread the word.  Share the links.  Spend just 5 minutes each day educating yourself about this case.  Imagine if this was your daughter, sister, friend -- you would not stop in your quest for the truth, right?  Justice for Rebecca starts now.  We welcome you to the cause and hope to see you back here soon.

**We are not part of an agency and we do not have a personal or professional connection to the Zahau family**

  4. Ruling this a suicide with so little investigation shows that the San Diego Sheriff's office caved under pressure. A complete and thorough investigation needs to be done soon. Many thanks to the good people of this blog for believing. I too want to see justice for Rebecca Zahau.

  10. In this investigation with everyone watching every scrap of evidence should have been tested and a role playing re-enactment test done to prove it possible. With all the TV shows and news releases and wasted man hours it would be nice if they did it right when they had the chance. What a disappointing moment for San Diego County taxpayers!

  13. Here's my take on what happened: Dina was enraged at both Jonah and Rebecca after leaning her son was brain dead and they would have to disconnect him from life support. Jonah Schnai would have been aware of this and if he did in fact call Rebecca about the decision about disconnecting Max from life support but did not tell her about Dina's rage this makes him at least partly culpable for what ultimately happened. or maybe he did warn Rebecca and this is why someone erased the message. I believe that Rebecca was in the shower. Dina broke in through the kitchen grabbed a pan, a bottle, some heavy blunt object and proceeded upstairs to confront Rebecca. violence ensued, she struck Rebecca rendering unconscious. At this point she called someone for help in plotting and carrying out the evil task of making it seem like Rebecca took her own life. The fact that she wasn't even questioned by the SD, when several people knew the extent of her anger is beyond the pale.

    1. It doesn't seem like she took her own life! Not by a long shot. Nothing at that crime scene suggests a suicide. She had no motive, she left no note, NOTHING. And All of the evidence suggests she was murdered, The only reason you say that is because this idiot sheriff closed the case saying that was his conclusion despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary. The first officer there describes her death as 'very violent and suspicious' Who paints a sign on the door referring to herself in the third person, beats herself on the head, ties herself up in such an elaborate manner, shoves a tee shirt into her own mouth and then very tightly around her own neck then hangs herself naked off a balcony naked? to commit suicide? It's a first ever scenario. This woman was murdered and every knows it except, apparently, the moron running the San Diego Sheriff's Office.

    Someone accessed her computer from a SW Airlines account. ... someone also accessed her computer after she died. Shame on him for implying it was Rebecca. The potential suspect (and there are a few) also accessed porn on his own IPhone and masterbated to it before her body was "found". Gore is insulting a dead woman and her family by his ill-informed remarks.

    Sheriff Gore implied at a press conference that Becky looked at bondage porn on her computer. This is false. Someone accessed her computer from a SW Airlines account before she died and then did generally after she died. And a person of interest in the case viewed porn on his Iphone before "discovering" her body.

    I also want to note that during the PC, Gore stated with regards to the blood in the shower not being tested because they came to "a logical conclusion" from the other blood that was tested. Yet, he states over and over again they only base their conclusions on "scientific evidence". Huh? He speaks with a double forked tongue.

    What does any of that have to do with Max's or Rebecca's death? Maybe she was still sick and had been in her sleeping clothes for the last 18 hours, and took a shower and got some sleep, didn't Jonah's text to Rebecca indicate Max was "looking more alive"?
    **********

    “Sleeping clothes” unusual words until I thought about it. Doesn’t “someone” like to sleep all day and run late picking up their child from school? They probably do have what they refer to as “sleeping clothes” that are comfortable to sleep in during the day. They wouldn’t call them pajamas since it is not night time and they are not in bed. So who then could Dancing Clam be? Who would know Dina was in her “sleeping clothes?”

    Who refers to Rebecca as being a nobody?:

  20. Comment by Kim Moreno posted on eCoronado.com on Wednesday. Excellent idea! The article is worthy of a go/read.

    There is a seated Grand Jury for the County of San Diego whose powers appear to include the investigation of governmental conduct and performance. I suggest that the citizenry of Coronado and San Diego write them urging that this Zahau determination be reviewed.

    the Grand Jury mailing address is:

    San Diego County Grand Jury
    330 W. Broadway Suite 4774
    San Diego CA 92101-3830

    The grand jury is a body of 19 citizens who are charged and sworn to investigate county matters of civil concern as well as inquire into public offenses committed or triable within the county. Grand jury duties, powers, responsibilities, qualifications and selection processes are outlined in the California Penal Code.

    DUTIES AND POWERS

    The grand jury reviews and evaluates procedures, methods and systems utilized by government to determine whether they can be made more efficient and effective. It may examine any aspect of county government and city government, including special legislative districts and joint powers agencies, to ensure that the best interests of San Diego County citizens are being served. The grand jury may inquire also into written complaints brought to it by the public.

  23. There has yet to be any hard evidence that points to suicide. Nothing, nada, ziltch. The old hard evidence presented on Sept 2 points to homicide. The old hard evidence that was not analyzed at the time points to homicide. The new information being presented points to homicide.

    On websleuths radio interview last night, Dr Cyril Wecht was vehement in his disgust with ME Dr Lucas' conclusions. I believe the word Mr Wecht used was "poppycock." Dr Wecht said neck injuries do not rule out strangulation nor do they rule out hanging. But they DO rule out a 9 foot drop hanging.

  28. Why didn’t the bed move as much as it did on KFMB?
    SDSO Answer: KFMB re-enactment not sufficient to stand up to the scrutiny of scientific method. "None of the investigators on scene questioned the distance the bed" FYI Gore your method does not stand up to the scrutiny of scientific method either. At least KFMB tried!! The excuse that they did not go back in time and have access to the room and a spare body is ridiculous and laughable. Unless SDSO saved the carpet, bed, rope, room, atmospheric conditions and body an exact re-enactment is now impossible. What KFMB did was based on information made available and clearly showed a HUGE discrepancy in distance and method of movement of the bed. What KFMB did was a 1000 times more scientific than what SDSO did and should at least warrant SDSO to do the same recreation with its more accurate information disprove KFMB's claim.
    SDSO won't though unless it is made to, because such a recreation will disprove SDSO's entire suicide ruling and they failed to investigate homicide so they will be left with nothing.

  29. If this case was investigated from the beginning as a homicide as it should have been investigation 101 dictates that victims clothing should be identified and processed regardless if she was wearing at the time of her death. (The last thing she was wearing should have been collected) Was it identified? Where was it located and how was it placed there? Was it checked for damage that could have been caused by a struggle? Was any blood found on these items? Or were these items removed from the scene by possible killer/killers? Where are her clothes? She was found naked but that does not mean she died naked. Why were the underclothes in the trash discounted so quickly without furth analysis?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Every answer on SDSO website makes me want to laugh.. starting with the first one.. Why werent the "panties" in the trash tested? You right there was just a "Naked" tied up woman.. why in the world would you test and/or positively identify clothing throw in the trash.. wow I see no connection either.. (sarcasm) Was the last thing Rebecca wearing identified and collected and properly tested for sign of an assault? Why not? 7-15 Detectives didnt think that was important either? Very poorly ran investigation not surprised it came to a poorly stated conclusion. Re-investigat with detectives that care about their. Work

    ReplyDelete
  31. SDSO states between 7-15 Detectives and lab people worked on this case exclusively for 7 weeks. Seriously? Doing what I might ask? Re-enactment=Not done, victimology=Not done, Testing of evidence=Not done, Talking with Victim family=Not done, talking with multiple witnesses=Not done, and using logic= Not done. When SDSO should have depended on the sciences they instead used lack of science and evidence to state its case. If it took this many to get it so wrong maybe its time to discuss time management at SDSO starting at the top..

    ReplyDelete
  32. There is no evidence that beyond doubt Rebecca killed herself or Max yet that is what she is being accused of without even a trial or an impartial look. This is America and Rebecca deserves another look as does Max if his family request it. If these people were someone you love you would want a re-investigation too.. There are just too many questions and too many dumb answers.. Scientists and Law Enforcement agree SDSO got it wrong and the family and the public will not be able to rest or trust SDSO until it allows this case to be done right. J4R

    ReplyDelete
  33. Gore stop being blind and cruel to the Victim's family there is more than enough reasons to re-investigate the case. (Not limited to a string of unexplained hanging deaths in Mephis TN.) Shacknai family come clean before someone does it for you. Zahau family stay strong, justice for Rebecca is to be had if you stick to the facts and demand the truth. JUSTICE FOR REBECCA ZAHAU!!

  34. SDSO Felt the need to write an Answers page, guess there is power in public demand. Now lets get a page of answers with the TRUTH how bout it? Amazing for as many times as Gore said science doesnt lie that most of these answers had NO science or reasoning at all. The witness accounts being dismissed because they didnt matfh what they had determined was the voicemail that isnt there and time of death they have failed to prove.. That my friends is not how investigations are done. All statements that might have any meaning at all are taken and added to the case files.. These witnesses were ignored all together.. WHY? This case cries for investigation by the CA AG.. Not just what really happened in this murder bt what happened in the investigation. Where are certain detectives that seemed to be getting to the truth? Why were they dropped from the case half way through?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Where are the Detectives in this case? Lets get them on a panel.. I have just a few questions.. Lets get a vote (under oath) from all those that worked this case and see if everyone really agrees with the suicide ruling.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why does SDSO keep changing its story? In the "dog and pony" PC it claimed the message on the door was not a suicide note. Its not a suicide note anyone understands. Yet now in its "answers" its calling it a suicide note? And the answer is wrong about the comparison but more on that later.. Stop changing your answers Gore.. Pick one lie and stick to it..

  38. Dr. Godwin's findings of the shoeprints on top of the footsprints that LE says were RZ's...indicates someone else on the balcony with RZ. Dr. Godwin has even found a sole that matches the print - EVA flip-flops.

    WHO was wearing those flip-flops?

    Adam had boots - he put them on to go get coffee - I believe if he had flip-flops he would have put those on to go get the coffee.

    So, who do those flip-flops belong to?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Adam's boots: he put them on to go get coffee, found RZ hanging (per Adam) and went into the kitchen of the main house to get a knife to cut her down. Shoeprints were found in the kitchen that LE says are consistent with the boots Adam was wearing.

    Question: pictures of the area show grass and brick walkways. Where did Adam get enough dust/dirt on his boots to leave shoeprints on the kitchen floor?

    Where did RZ get all the dirt on her feet?

    When did Adam actually go into the kitchen to get a knife? Many hours during that night - which hour was it that Adam went into the kitchen and where did he get what ever was on the soles of his boots to leave shoeprints on the kitchen floor?

    ReplyDelete
  40. great questions, Lulu, I haven't seen the boots/feet dirt issue discussed. 43. Reading through those links, I think a very pertinent point was made. How was CPR conducted on Rebecca if her hands were tied behind her back. Pictures show her laying on the grass with her hands still bound. What in the world kind of CPR could have been conducted? Both Adam and the Coronado police claimed to give CPR. How? Somehow Adam was talking to 911 and conducting CPR.. how? Has this been discussed to a satisfying resolution? Yes, I guess that was a little sarcastic since nothing has been resolved in a satisfying way!

    911 call released in hanging death at Spreckels mansion

    News commentator says you can hear the table being moved and a leg breaking. I don't hear that, I hear a squeaky noise. The table doesn't have 'wheels'.

    Besides that...didn't we learn that Adam cut down RZ 'before' he called LE? And that he used the table to cut her down? If so, then wouldn't the news commentator know that Adam wouldn't be moving the table during the phone call to LE??
    What am I missing?

  46. Someone questioned this on another blog and I realized I didn't know the answer myself: Does anyone know the line of work that Nina is in? Does she work? If so, where?

  47. Lulu-

    You bring up a very important point about the wooden table and yet another question on Adam's statement the morning of July 13,2011.

    I've always had a problem WHERE the wooden table is shown in the backyard.If you project RZ body hanging....she would seem a little BEYOND REACH from the wooden table that's shown on a brick walkway next to grass.If the table leg broke during this process then why isn't the table tipped over and the details transcribed? Also, where is the missing leg? I never saw it listed on SW list...just wooden table. The picture of 2 detectives carrying out the wodden table doesn't show the broken leg on top of table,etc. Furthermore, the top of the wooden table looks CLEAN....how can that be? just seconds/minutes earlier....Adam's DIRTY boots left prints on the kitchen floor while getting the knife to cut her down so he says.

    I'd love to see a reenactment on this....measure the distance of wooden table to estimate of RZ body would be hanging using that NEWS 8 100lb.dummy.Also, would like to get more data on this wooden table and HOW COULD THE LEG BREAK....such a clean break right at top.However, before the reenactment...we need to know has the broken leg been recovered? If not, how in the world could it disappear? Was the broken leg missing prior to Adam cutting down RZ? If so, then conduct the reenactment with same type wooden table with 3 legs at that distance away from 100 lb. dummy and when that 100 lb. dummy is cut down what happens to the table once 260-270 lbs. is now atop the 3 legged table.

    Finally, the top of the wooden table looks so CLEAN when Rebecca's feet have been described so DIRTY and Adam's boots dirty as well yet I'm suppose to believe Adam's story that he approached a hanging "rope tied" body around 6:30 am and did not immediately pull the GAG out of her mouth but waited 15-18 minutes later,cut her down from where this table was shown on photos from backyard and with the 2 people being atop this wooden table never left any dirty marks and the table looking undisturbed? By the way, were there any foot/boot prints found atop the wooden table?

  48. I'd like to go back to my #1 peeve...ADT Security lack of information.
    -----------------------------------------------
    Recently we've read that a detective transporting Rebecca and her sister Xena to a Care facility to get stitches for Xena's leg wrote down RZ statement...."Dina's going to kill me." This was said minutes after Max was headed toward Coronado Hospital (approx. 10:35 am -July 11, 2011)and 3 1/2 hours BEFORE Dina received the news of Max's accident.

    The significance of that statement to an UNBIASED investigation would lead the detectives to check Dina's background with anger issues,explore her 2 year attitude towards Rebecca and take the eye witness statement from the adult on the bike who described Dina not Nina on the front porch at 10:25 pm on Tuesday night July 12, 2011.No, Gore's finest at SDSO did none of that....they instead chose to rely on Snowem's statement that RZ was depressed 6 months earlier to support Gore's suicide theory even though there were no indicators from doctors,no prescription drugs,no prior suicide attempts,no computer search indicators as well leading up to her death.

    So here we have a profile of Rebecca Zahau...very fit,very healthy 32 yr. old woman that wasn't liked within the family by Jonah's 2 teenage kids and his 2nd wife in particuliar -Dina Romano for 2 years.She is in charge of Dina's son on Monday morning July 11, 2011 and the accidental tragic fall occurs where Rebecca makes the statement,"Dina's going to kill me." Rebecca drops her disappointed/sad sister (Xena) off at the airport the next afternoon after only arriving Sunday while picking up Jonah's brother Adam up at airport....the tugboat operator from Memphis.

    Rebecca was going to be ALONE in the 27 room mansion at night for the first time on Tuesday night.Rebecca has been "peppered" by Jonah and some family members for 24 hours..."how did this happen" over and over while she tried to explain that she doesn't know what happened because she never saw the fall.Nina is texting her and someone is ringing the doorbell late at night.Rebecca on Tuesday night doesn't have Xena in the house because she's already back home in Missouri and doesn't have her dog Ocean that was picked up that early Tuesday morning by Ted Grenburg, the kennel owner.Sooooo....with all the negative vibes the last 24 hours, creepy Adam being the only other person on the property that night and the thought that "Dina's going to kill him" in the back of her mind....wouldn't you think Rebecca would've had the prescence of mind to LOCK ALL DOORS and WINDOWS and turning the ADT security alarm system on before going to bed?

    Why didn't SDSO have ADT sensor records for the property at 1043 Ocean Blvd. on SW list? Why isn't there data information from the most valuable and prized home in Coronado and certainly most valuable client in Coronado for ADT? Why won't ADT answer the media's questions....who put a GAG in their mouth....Jonah, attorney Paul Pfingst,SDSO detectives via Gore?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I just heard Sept. 2 PC ....Adam's statement was that the wooden leg broke while DRAGGING to the location...have problems with that answer.SDSO did say they picked up broken leg.

    SDSO said they NEVER checked with ADT security even though SDSO was in charge of RZ death. Coronado Police said the alarm system wasn't used or wasn't regularly used....very mysterious on this subject.Heck, ADT was used well enough to have 8 police responses from 2009-2011 at 1043 Ocean Blvd. and to say it wasn't regularly used ....simply boggles my mind.SDSO never approached ADT in 7 weeks about the alarm system...maybe Gore said,"don't bother...Jonah told me it's never working or turned on." I'd rather hear ALL the details from ADT but they're not speaking....why not? Hmmmm....

  50. Dirt on Becky's feet:

    Connecting with the tape and cries for help - could it be that between taking the tape off the legs, to put on the rope, that Becky got loose, ran outside and cried for help and then hid in behind the bushes - thereby getting "dirt" on her feet?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lulu-

    Very possible....the person that abducted her from the bushes would've had dirty feet/boots too....Adam left dirty boot prints in the kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Roger -
    Along the same lines as I was thinking. Maybe it was that RZ was in trouble and ran outside and hid in the bushes. Got her feet dirty there and in any "struggle" to remove her from that area got her feet "really dirty" and the person who was getting her out - their shoes/boots got dirty too. When RZ was found hiding - outside - an was captured - she cried out for help! Makes sense to me.

    Also...dirty boots in the kitchen do NOT equal EVA flip-flops pattern on the balcony - the shoe prints that are over the foot prints.

    Boot prints / flip flop prints / foot prints.

    Three distinctively different prints.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Lulu-

    Ya... lets focus on the DIRTY soles (feet/shoe/boot prints).

    Rebecca ,according to SDSO took a shower that night so her feet got dirty AFTER her shower and the balcony couldn't have produced the level of dirt found on her feet.RZ had to go outside....SDSO will argue...yes, when she went to garage to get 60 ft. towing rope but we know that's a crock of b.s.So WHEN and WHERE does RZ feet get dirty?

    Adam flew in to SD Tuesday late afternoon,went to hospital to see Max,then dinner with RZ and brother Jonah and back to mansion a tick past 8;00 pm where he went to guest house to retire for the evening.He opens the door at 6:30 am Wed. morning and sees RZ hanging....goes to back door to get into main house for the knife to supposedly cut RZ down and leaves DIRTY boot prints in the kitchen.So WHEN and WHERE does Adam's boots get dirty?

    While I'm talking about Adam....okay, we know he didn't take the GAG out of RZ mouth for at least 15 minutes for some reason (6:45am) but once he cut RZ down ....why didn't he unwrap the blue t-shirt and noose around her neck? What's the point of CPR with those items constricting her breathing? Hmmm.....

  54. Question: does anyone have a "clue" as to what's going on at The Hinky Meter? It's been closed down a long time now. TIA

  55. @ Roger~

    I wish we could answer those questions.

    I have a question to add, when Adam went out to get a cup of coffee, did he bring his cell phone?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Lulu - about The Hinky Meter, very strange the site is down with no explanation. There are many many cases discussed at THM, and have been for many many years. Seeing as Websleuths is online, business as usual, as well as other forums and blogs discussing the Rebecca Zahau case, hard to imagine one has anything to do with the other. That being said, I remember back Valhall mentioning [am paraphrasing here] that in all her career as moderator she has never witnessed nor been the object of such vicious attacks as she has regarding this case, even citing a Mafia-linked case in her own hometown as an example. Like all of us who believe justice has not been served in Rebecca's death, these attacks only strengthen our resolve to right this horrendous wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  57. LopEyeLee-on my way to jury duty this morning I was thinking the same thing-it was early, just getting coffee in the main house ( even tho he allegedly had a kitchen in the guest house ), why would he have his phone with him. I understand guys are glued to their phone, but really, pre-coffee. It's a challenge to believe anything these two families says.

    Was he doing his "Iphone exercises" before he went for coffee? Before he found Rebecca? If so, we are supposed to believe he woke up, worked out on his Iphone, then went for coffee & found Rebecca. Guess he really bonded to his phone :)

    And they honestly think any of us will stop following this case and fighting for the Zahau's. Not to mention the duality of the case, internet scrubbing, noisey trolls, and now The Hinky Meter. I 'm not going anywhere.

    Lulu, exactly! Also to your point re: shower...we're supposed to believe RZ showered, got dressed (because would she REALLY go get that rope unclothed with AS staying there), then got undressed AGAIN to commit suicide? Ridiculous!!!

  68. Great Website
    The pressure of public opinion can do in the city what the law cannot accomplish. There is no street so vile that the scream of a tortured woman, or the thud of a revengeful drunkard's blow, does not beget sympathy and indignation among the neighbours, and then the whole machinery of justice is ever so close that a word of complaint can set it going, and there is but a step between the crime and the shore. But look at these lonely houses, each in its own yards, filled for the most part with wealthy yet ignorant folk who know little of the law. Think of the deeds of hellish cruelty, the hidden wickedness which may go on, year in, year out, in such places, and none the wiser.

An eye witness puts Dina Shacknai at the house that evening "acting strange". Dina has no actual alibi just her phone. Nina and Dina had opportunity, means, and definitely motive. Both too has nautical rope tying experience and olny a revengeful woman would leave another woman naked after killing her. Connect the dots find a killer.

    She is pushing ahead nonetheless, currently preparing a proposal to submit to the California attorney general seeking an independent investigation of the death."

  75. SDSO spent all that money and time to produce a video to show that RZ tied the rope at her wrists so loose as to be able to get in and out of them; therefore, it was "suicide".

    That was "after" ME Lucas performed the autopsy the day after RZ's death and wrote in the Autopsy Report that the rope was loose at the wrists; therefore it was "suicide" (words to that effect.

    That was "after" an officer on the scene was told by Adam, that he (Adam) loosened the rope on RZ's wrists.

    Highlight Hollywood had the honor of interviewing the late Rebecca Zahau’s sister Mary Zahau-Loehner on Friday. Mary was very grateful, along with her husband Doug that Highlight Hollywood has been giving fair and unbiased coverage of their loved ones case. I have been stunned by the attacks the family has been under, and it seems every time they do an interview in the media, most recently on the “Dr. Phil Show,” that some in law enforcement feel threatened and attack the family all over again. The purpose of our investigation into this case is not to point fingers at anyone, especially in law enforcement. It is to help seek justice for Rebecca Zahau and also her grieving family.

  82. Even if there were no gawking teenage onlookers from two roofs over it would have been wrong. Even if aircraft weren't landing every 45minutes and helicopters werent filming away. It was mid July, the sun was shining, and according to Chief Gore there was a breeze which means they did nothing to protect the bery evidence Lucas states moving the body would have destroyed. Let us ask the question: was there any evidence recovered in or around the body? Did leaving the body uncovered in the summer sun distort any findings of the body itself? Bad job.. If they didnt care about Rebecca from the beginning what makes anyone think they cared about. Her during the investigation? Time the case gets solved by someone impartial that wont disrespect the victim..

    What is so bizarre and false about Lucas' comment about delay in removing Rebecca's body so as not to compromise 'evidence,' if you look at the many helicopter images and footage, there never appears to be ANYONE even in the vicinity of her body. Helicopters were up as early as 9AM and continued until at least 4PM. Rebecca was abandoned. Sickening. Such a travesty.

    New Investigation at Coronado Mansion
    December 13, 2011

    (snip) As of Tuesday, the Zahau family was waiting to hear whether the sheriff's department will supervise the forensic testing. A sheriff's department spokeswoman said, "Our investigation is concluded and the family has the entire file -- to include scene photos. The house has left our control (months ago) and many, many people have walked through -- there's nothing there." (snip)

    (Me: I see the spokeswoman for the SDSO still has a major attitude. The public needs to burn her a new road; let the public see how crass she is. And, of course, she’s just a “mouthpiece” for Gore.)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Question for Robert or anyone else who knows the answer:

    "If" Gore doesn't make someone available to observe the forensic testing, etc., that AB plans to perform, is there another way/another person who can observe and that observation be allowed in court? (I may not have the correct words used, but hopefully you get my gist.) TIA

    ReplyDelete
  94. Lulu - I said it yesterday, JS doesnt do things out of the kindness of his heart. Something told me this refusal or delay from Gore was coming. Legally any LE agency involved can be present. This could be Coronado PD, AG office, FBI, or possibly even detectives from another un-named agency. The stop comes with how that authority letter was written. If it states that it MUST be SDSO then we are right back where we were before the letter. The letter becomes yet another publicity stunt "I gave them permission because I am such a good guy, cant help they couldn't talk SDSO into it"
    SDSO needs to do the right thing and ignore Shacknai pressure and just let the Zahau family have its turn.. If there is nothing about to hide it just works in SDSO's favor.

    Shacknai Allows Zahau Family To Conduct Mansion Investigation
    UPDATED: 7:41 pm PST December 14, 2011

    (snip) A Zahau family attorney said as of Wednesday, he was still waiting to hear from the sheriff's department regarding the possibility of supervising the testing at the mansion.
    He told 10News the family is optimistic that things will work in their favor.

    In response, Caldwell told 10News on Wednesday: "We are not denying the Zahau family access. We don't have that authority -- the house is still owned by Jonah Shacknai. We are simply not going to accompany anyone through the property." (snip)
    ~~~~~~
    According to the last sentence of the snip above, the SDSO is simply NOT going to accompany anyone through the property. This sounds pretty definitive to me. I “hope” that the cars in the mansion’s driveway tonight were AB’s team doing their testing. Since the sheriff is NOT going to do the decent thing here, AB’s team needs to get on that property ASAP and get everything concluded.
    If it wasn’t Bremner’s team at the mansion tonight, wonder who it was? I would think AB would want an “entire” day to perform their testing.
    It's obvious that with wounds all over RZ's back and upper hip areas and no corresponding wounds on her arms, that the wounds were made before RZ's wrists were tied behind her back; therefore, they were NOT made by the cactus plant while hanging from the balcony.
    I believe this could be an important "fact" - one that speaks "against" suicide and a point that could be made wrt getting an approval for an independent investigation.
    What would have caused all those wounds?
    Was she being dragged over something - grass? That wouldn't cause those wounds would it?
    Was she being hit with something?
    Was she being tortured to say whatever they wanted her to say?
    If the argument from JS would be that he wants SDSO to "supervise" because they're the agency rendering the suicide decision and because they're law enforcement - then why wouldn't one of the other law enforcement agencies that "signed off" on suicide be viable supervisors?
    Zahau Family Makes Final Push For Mansion Probe
    (snip) "The evidence we've looked at and we've developed indicate clearly that one or more persons were involved in Rebecca's death," said Marty Rudoy, a Zahau family attorney. "The family has ultimate confidence in Rebecca's character and they are certain she did not commit suicide." (snip)
    (snip) Last week, Shacknai's attorney said the family would not be allowed inside the home unless sheriff's investigators accompanied them.
    However, the sheriff's department said they would not comply without new evidence.
    Rudoy told 10News he believes the sheriff's department has been cooperative in other areas. He said he will meet with sheriff's investigators in two weeks and hopes he can convince them to enter the home together before it's too late.
    Rudoy also said he will contact the mansion's new owners to see if they are willing to let them inside.
    "We're hoping that the new buyers are sensitive to our needs and will schedule any renovations around out legitimate requests for inspection," said Rudoy. (snip)
    For the first two months following Rebecca's death, we had a good thing going on Patch: intelligent discourse, a stimulating exchange of viewpoints and theories, a gathering of information and independent research, and above all, a shared respect and civility in an environment of overall disbelief and disgust at the blatant injustice and disrespect that was being delved out by SDSO. At the time, several forums commended Patch as having the most insightful commentaries online regarding the Coronado Mansion deaths.
    Unfortunately, with the onset of vile, immature, accusatory, vicious attacks by those bent on destroying the reputation of a woman who was violently silenced, coupled with their campaign to intimidate all those who simply seek the truth surrounding both deaths, Patch went to hell in a hand basket. Those who attack do so out of fear.
    I have gone by 1043 Ocean a couple of times in the past few weeks. I walked down the driveway and peeked through the slats on the door that leads to the courtyard and the kitchen. One can clearly see the guest house living room windows. Nina, in her ramblings, stated everything was dark, only the hanging room light was on. If that was the case, where was Adam?
  119. Can anyone explain why it was SDSO and not SDPD that was called in to investigate this violent suspicious death? Was there an option?
    ReplyDelete
    1. I have often wondered that also, i.e. did JS request, and have his request granted, to have SDSO investigate because he knew Gore?
      I also wonder: Did it take the ME 11 hours to get to Rebecca's body because Lucas was requested by JS and he couldn't get there until late?
  122. Kitty Chi, AJ and others, I agree there was a time when CP was an inspiring and insightful site for truth, facts and most of all intelligence. The suicide crew has made it into a 3-ring circus. I suppose that is o.k. since everyone clearly sees through them anyway. Ironically, they defeat their own purpose.
    I realized I had become one of them by lowering my standards and sinking to their level. It has brought out the worst in me, which I do not like. I will continue to review it, but do not feel the need to comment other than every now and then. I am glad there are new people posting fighting for the cause and doing an excellent job.
    I will continue to pray for truth, justice and the AG to open this case. I truly believe Anne B. cannot post anything yet because the AG is reviewing it. Which really shouldn’t take this long, however, its politics. I may be silent but am still with you all in the fight for J4R.
  123. Suicide? No Way! Nobody commits suicide like that.
    ReplyDelete
  124. It is absolutely incredible that this horrific incident has been declared to be a suicide. How shameful, how low have we fallen that such bold brash perversion of injustice and bribery is carried out right in front of our faces for all to see!
    ReplyDelete
  125. Who in the world binds their own hands and legs in this way and then commits suicide?! While I’m sure it is possible the person would have to have the skills of Houdini (the re-known magician) to pull it off. I pray that an investigation be done to disclose every dirty governmental and mobster rat that participated in this scandal. Unfortunately, all too many will sell out justice for the almighty dollar. Little do they realize they are selling out their own souls.
    ReplyDelete
  126. May they be discovered and thrown in jail where they belong. I also pray that whoever knows the truth about this will have the courage to speak out and be protected from repercussion. May every lie and cover-up be disclosed and whoever committed this crime (or these crimes!) come to justice!
  130. Looking back, when the news aired RZ body laying in the courtyard, showed her legs bound and her knees bent and her hands bounds in the back. Now, Adam said he found her hanging and had her cut down, when there is no life left and been hanging for hours, the body gets stiff and with gravity, body should just hang not with knees bent. This CASE stinks foul play and NOT SUICIDE!
    ReplyDelete
  131. She was definitely murdered. But why are things so quiet? No news on this anywhere. So are the murderer(s) going to get away with this? Anyone know what's going on?
    ReplyDelete
  132. It’s that WE don’t believe the investigation, based on the FACTS released to-date, was conducted thoroughly, without bias or influence, and with the objective of finding the facts and drawing a conclusion based on those facts. Because of this the SDSO appears to have drawn an unfounded conclusion. The investigation is the problem.
    Coronado Patch: Shacknai Renovation Plans Drew Opponents
    Jack, is it possible to verify that renovations are taking place at the stairway and also the 'hanging' room? The cactus was chopped down, that we know. I guess altering landscaping is not included when renovating an historical landmark like the Spreckels mansion??
    ReplyDelete
  140. How long was that cactus there and why now to dig it up if not to destroy possible evidence?
    ReplyDelete
  141. No way of knowing, Jack. It was there when photographed before JS bought it as seen in these photos at the Coronado Photography website:
  143. New information can come up after time goes by, and six months is long enough. A new independent private investigator should go back and talk with every single individual involved, including those on the peripheral, to see what information has changed and to gather new information to get the case reopened. Has enough money been collected to make this happen, and if so, to hire the very best money can buy? We all agree there seems to be something missing here. I would like to see some specific update from the family about where the case stands now and how close it is to being reopened. At a minimum, the cause of death needs to be changed while the investigation continues.
  144. I join all the efforts to seek Justice for Rebecca Zahau. I hope that in the near future we can see her perpetrators facing a trial and later sent to prison for this cowardly crime. To the Justice for Rebecca campaign, you must know that you are not alone, that many people are willing to walk along with you.
    It is sad to find out that our government would still allow this crime to go unpunished. We have a moral responsibility to speak out and to seek justice. To denounce a crime is not enough. We must do everything possible to bring to justice those responsible for this crime. That is why I am here this afternoon, to show my support for the cause of Rebecca Zahau and to all her family and all those moved by this injustice. The Justice for Rebecca Zahau Campaign should now launch a new on-line pledge for supporters to take and pass on to their friends and colleagues. Human rights defenders and survivors of human rights violations need to stand united behind this campaign to shed light on the evil that has allowed this to continue.
    I support all efforts to seek Justice for Rebecca Zahau. I hope that in the near future we can see justice prevail.
The lack of bed movement, how the ropes were tied, the distinct way the message was written on the door, the screams, her neck not broken from a fall of 9ft, no rope fragments found in the bedroom, the light turned off, the rope outside the hair, nude hanging supposedly outside, dirty feet, gagged, no booting, no history of mental illness or depression from anyone that actually knew her, no suicide note, unexplained abrasions and contusions, full bladder, neck injuries below noose, witness of lurker, and I am sure there are a couple more that I have missed at the moment.. what you got? Lack or DNA and fingerprints, Max dying, and you dont like her?
    ReplyDelete
  148. Becky was in the bathroom, how do you suggest she could have prevented Max's fall? Accidents happen especially to 6 year olds, some sadly result in death. Let your hate of Rebecca go. She was killed because of this hate, she is laying dead in the ground because of this hate. When you can accept that what happened to Max was an accident than the healing can begin. Why focus such rage on a woman that is dead? Why not blame the 2 1/2 foot railing or the chain holding the chandelier or his father for not being home? We know how much Rebecca was hated by some before the accident even happened but the accident was not her fault. She did not deserve to be killed because of hate. Max would not be very proud or loving to those that did this to her. Let your hate go.
  153. Grace - I know its been bad over there.. I think that is the whole point of what they are doing. They have tried everything else to get us to leave the public sites and limit us to sites like this. Not that I don't like this site..
    I will be continuing over there the best I can, I believe not only is what they are doing is reprehensibly, illegal, and just childish but also is par for what they have been attempting since the start. They want to annoy, disturb, threaten, intimidate, and mislead as many as they can from this case. Then they will claim nobody cares except the few "loons" that are left. This is not a new strategy.. Even if I have to be one of those "loons" I will not give up and will not back down to their bullying.
    That said.. Everything we can comment on over there can be commented on here as well. And here they can not delete, or disrupt the conversation.
    I would ask that we all still comment there even if it seems pointless it really isn't. Even if it is just a copy paste of what we have here..
    Patch is a public site, seen by many that live in Coronado, San Diego, and all over. Our comments there are read by many that would not know to find us here. The more exposure we give the cause the better chance Rebecca's family has at getting the justice and answers they deserve..
    That's my two cents..
  171. Thank you for providing this forum. The Zahua family should know that many of us want justice for Rebecca. On the internet, there are now concerted efforts to overwhelm webboards, cast racist aspersions on Rebecca, and try to ban and silence those who want an investigation into her untimely death. So we must be getting close. Please keep working to get what happened that night at the mansion thoroughly investigated by an independent investigation - not one paid for by Dina and not one by a police department whose head is dependent on campaign contributions.
    ReplyDelete
  172. So, it appears as if someone is trying very hard to now shut down activity on The Patch. Is Dina's quest for a new investigation getting too hot in terms of a new investigation into the murder of Rebecca? Comments are taking days to get posted there. Some do not make the vetting process. I hope those that are trying to shut things down realize that this will not just go away. The bullying tactic to try and control the message has failed before and it will again. I hope they realize there are many, many people that believe Rebecca was murdered. They can't just make it all go away.
  174. Now Dina Shacknai is going on national TV blaming Rebecca for her son's death. And I wonder for what reasons? To sway public opinion? To justify her murder? Because her death is not good enough? Rebecca is truly crying out from the grave at this new injustice! The sheriff has much to be accountable for because if his investigation had been honest and conducted like a proper investigation, this would not be happening. Please, everyone, don't give up the fight for justice for Rebecca!!
